Darlene Smith and her staff at the new Al Fresco’s will make you feel as though you have entered their 8,000 square foot villa. You can relax at the bar with your friends and unwind after a busy day of sun and sand. On the weekends they have a piano playing in the bar to help soothe your nerves after that long work week.

Al Fresco’s started in Ocean Springs where they still have the original restaurant. One of the features of the Ocean Springs location is the open air courtyard with the unique fountain with its fire features. In their Biloxi location they have recreated the atmosphere with an indoor courtyard complete with the fountain. The courtyard looks out over the Mississippi Sound and the opposing wall is decorated with the look of shuttered windows so that you truly feel like you are outside without the heat. Many people chose this relaxing area for that special meal while listening to the soothing cascade of the fountain.

If you are looking for a more formal feel then Al Fresco offers you a place for that romantic evening with the one you love or a place to impress your business associates. In the formal dining area it is more subdued with curved walls that have been painted to recreate the feel and look of an intimate Italian dining room.

When planning that special party or night out with friends you may wish to reserve the garden room. The walls are painted with arches that give you the feeling of eating out on the terrace overlooking the lakes. This room also has a view of the Mississippi Sound to compliment the paintings.

The environment enhances the whole dining experience. This is the way dining out used to be before mass marketing of restaurants. In this relaxed atmosphere you can enjoy the ones you are with without being rushed to make a food choice and having to rush through one course before the next one arrives. The wait staff is very knowledgeable not only of the daily specials not on the menu but of all the offerings. If you don’t see what you want on the menu, ask your server to see if they may have what you want. Since your food is cooked fresh not pre-packaged there is more flexibility. I doubt you will need to deviate from the menu since it covers all tastes from vegetarian, to steak, to fresh seafood, to pork or chicken.

Al Fresco bakes their own bread that is brought to your table hot. Dip that into the fresh grated cheese and olive oil dip and you have started one of the best dining experiences on the Coast. The salad is a fresh salad with spring greens and tomatoes. Top this with the house dressing of balsamic vinaigrette and time stands still. Enjoy the meal and the company until the main course arrives. One of the signature dishes is the chicken parmigiana, which is a flatten chicken breast breaded and pan fried topped with cheese then served over pasta with a fresh marinara sauce. This is Italian dining at its best. Top of the dining experience with a cup of coffee and tiramisu or any of the other fine desert offerings and you will begin planning your next visit to Al Fresco.

Al Fresco in Edgewater Village in Biloxi is Katrina’s gift to Biloxi. Where Al Fresco is located was gutted by the force of Katrina and now a thing of beauty has emerged from the ruins. No longer do the people on the west side of Biloxi Bay have to travel over the bridge to experience a relaxed authentic Italian meal.
